SUMMARY:Accessible Digitisation for GLAMs: From Low-Cost Cameras to 3D Mode
ls for collections - Oct 2026
DESCRIPTION:\n\nWe're rerunning the Accessible Digitisation course at the U
niversity of Surrey. This is free training for M25 Consortium library staf
f\, with travel bursaries available.\n\nHave you ever wanted to use low-co
st equipment to create 3D models of objects in your library\, archive\, mu
seum or gallery to boost accessibility and engagement\, but you are worrie
d about the technical skills that might be needed? This free one-day works
hop is for you!\n\nIn the morning\, you will be introduced to Raspberry Pi
\, from the assembly and installation to the use of the camera command-lin
 e tools to preview\, capture\, and record high-quality images and video. Y
ou will experience how flexible and affordable systems such as Raspberry P
i can support applications in digital archiving\, environmental monitoring
 \, robotics\, creative media\, and research documentation.\n\nThe afternoo
n will be dedicated on transforming captured images into 3D models using o
pen-access photogrammetry software. You will complete image-to-model workf
lows\, learning how photographs can be processed in accurate digital recon
structions suitable for archival documentation\, heritage recording\, visu
alisation\, education\, and immersive environments.\n\nBy the end of the w
orkshop\, you will have practical experience in camera control\, image cap
ture\, and introductory 3D modelling techniques\, alongside a deeper under
standing of how everything learned can be applied at your own institution.
\n\nNo prior technical experience is needed. A sandwich lunch and tea and
coffee will be provided.\n\nThe University of Surrey Library was a success
ful applicant to the M25 Consortium Innovation Fund 2025-2026 and received
funding to support M25 Consortium members being offered this training fre
