SUMMARY:Accessible Digitisation for GLAMs: From Low-Cost Cameras to 3D Mode
 ls for collections
DESCRIPTION:\n\nFree training for M25 Consortium library staff \nHave you
ever wanted to use low-cost equipment to create 3D models of objects in yo
ur library\, archive\, museum or gallery to boost accessibility and engage
ment\, but you are worried about the technical skills that might be needed
? This free one-day workshop is for you!\n\nIn the morning\, you will be i
ntroduced to Raspberry Pi\, from the assembly and installation to the use
of the camera command-line tools to preview\, capture\, and record high-qu
ality images and video. You will experience how flexible and affordable sy
stems such as Raspberry Pi can support applications in digital archiving\,
environmental monitoring\, robotics\, creative media\, and research docum
entation.\n\nThe afternoon will be dedicated on transforming captured imag
es into 3D models using open-access photogrammetry software. You will comp
lete image-to-model workflows\, learning how photographs can be processed
in accurate digital reconstructions suitable for archival documentation\,
 heritage recording\, visualisation\, education\, and immersive environment
s.\n\nBy the end of the workshop\, you will have practical experience in c
 amera control\, image capture\, and introductory 3D modelling techniques\,
alongside a deeper understanding of how everything learned can be applied
at your own institution.\n\nNo prior technical experience is needed. A sa
ndwich lunch and tea and coffee will be provided.\n\nThe University of Sur
rey Library was a successful applicant to the M25 Consortium Innovation Fu
nd 2025-2026 and received funding to support M25 Consortium members being
offered this training free of charge with travel bursaries available.\n\nP

Wrap up with planning on how to share the training locally and end of the
workshop  \n\n\n\n Trainer: Dr Felix Pedrotti\, Open Research Officer\,
University of Surrey Library\n\nDr Felix Pedrotti is the Open Research Of
ficer at the University of Surrey\, where he supports open and responsible
research practices aligned with FAIR and CARE principles. Alongside this
role\, he is a Maritime Archaeologist and Research Fellow within the South
ampton Marine and Maritime Institute\, specialising in 3D modelling\, digi
tal cultural heritage\, visualisation\, and the public communication of re
search.\n\nDr Pedrotti is passionate about combining open technologies\, i
mmersive visualisation\, and interdisciplinary research to expand public e
ngagement with cultural heritage and digital scholarship.\n\nThe event wil
l be assisted by Eleonora Gandolfi\, A Director (Research and Innovation)\
 , University of Surrey Library\n\nVenue:\n\nDigital Scholarship Hub\nUnive
