  a professional librarian? This event brings together a range of speakers 
 to inspire you to choose a career in the library and information world. We
 ’ll give you an insight into the process of applying for and experiences
  of “Library School”\, as well as look at your first steps in your car
 eer.\n\nAt lunch time\, there’s a course fair with opportunities to meet
  representatives from LIS courses. It’s a great networking opportunity w

 od practice\, it will focus on what those challenges and opportunities mea
 n for the roles of information professionals within various organisations 
 and the skills they must have. Some of the implications of these issues fo
 r selecting library and information science programmes will be highlighted

 the rise in fees across all Masters’ courses\, it can be difficult to de

 takes a look at the evolution of library education in the UK\, and conclud
 es that with the underpinning of Cilip’s Professional Knowledge and Skil
 ls Base and the availability of high-tech modules at library schools acros
 s the country\, although the economic cost may be more than a few years ag
 o\, the opportunities for learning within the vocational Masters have neve

 uture-proofing’.\n\nKim Coles (Royal Holloway) ‘Applying to study Libr
 ary and Information Science: a distance learner’s perspective’.\n\nRos
 ie and Kim will be joined by Nick Balmforth (UEL)\, Oksana Viytovych (King
 ston)\, Charlotte Middleton (UCL) and Nigel Buckley (Kingston) to form a
  panel of current and recent library school students\, talking about their
  experiences and taking questions\n\nTimings are approximate as an importa
 nt aspect of this event is to allow delegates plenty of time to talk to sp
 eakers and course representatives – and each other! However the event wi
 ll end no later than 16:15 with a final round up of the day and an opportu
