SUMMARY:The Road Less Travelled: Looking Beyond Traditional Library Qualifi
 cations [TG1/Beyond]
DESCRIPTION:The Road Less Travelled - Looking Beyond Traditional Library Qu
alifications\n\nTraditionally\, aspiring professional librarians would com
plete a Masters course\, and once qualified\, would progress to chartershi
 p. Further career development was possible through attending courses and c
onferences. Nowadays\, that isn't the end of a librarian's career developm
ent. Many librarians are looking beyond library school\; either building o
n their library qualifications with further educational and professional o
pportunities\, or coming into librarianship from different angles entirely
.\n\nAt this event\, we have a range of speakers with different experience
s of taking 'the road less travelled'.\n\nElizabeth Charles (Assistant Dir
ector of Library Services\, Birkbeck\, University of London) will discuss
her experiences of obtaining a CMALT qualification from the Association fo
r Learning Technology and how this had helped her in her role.\n\nElla Mit
chell (Academic Services Manager\, UEL) has undertaken a distance learning
postgraduate qualification in Blended and Online Education at Edinburgh N
apier University and will examine how this benefited her career.\n\nDavid
Morgan (Metadata\, Discovery and Analytics Co-ordinator\, Royal Holloway\,
University of London) will explain why project management skills are incr
easingly important for libraries and librarians\, describe his recent post
graduate research in this area and inform how you can use these skills in
your role.\n\nFinally\, organisers Amy Rippon (Academic Engagement Librari
an\, University of Roehampton) and Kevin Wilson (Academic Liaison and Coll
ection Development Manager\, LSE) will discuss their recent experiences of
Erasmus+ staff weeks abroad and how it gave them a greater insight into l
ibraries and universities more widely.\n\nThis event will suit librarians
at all levels who are looking for new opportunities to develop themselves.
You might already be qualified and looking for that next step up. You mig
ht be new to a role and wanting to develop the necessary skills\, or you m
ight have a new area of librarianship in mind for your next role. You migh
t be responsible for staff development in your library and want to know wh
ich opportunities are out there for your staff. There will also be opportu
nities to reflect on the talks given and to think about your next career m
 ove.\n\n\nVenue:\nPrince's Room\, British Medical Association\n\nCost:\nM2
 5 Consortium Members - £90\nNon-members - £135\n\nCancellations less tha
n one week before the event will be charged a 50% cancellation fee. In the
event of a ‘no-show’ on the day\, the full fee will be charged.\n\nTo
