DESCRIPTION:Conventional “Library Management Systems” are under threat 
 from both open source offerings and a new generation of “Library Service
  Platforms” (Alma\, Intota\, etc.).  \n\nThis session will comprise an o
 verview of Library systems and provide 2 case studies of academic institut
 ions who chose to move from their existing LMS.  The speakers will explain
  in their presentations why they chose to move systems\, the process they 
 devised for choosing between the different systems available and what they
  think of their choice.\n\nThe session is aimed at any member of library a
 nd information staff interested in LMSs  and we hope to have demonstration
 s of the different LMSs as well as an exchange of experience session where
 by attendees can share their experiences as well\,.\n \nProgramme: \n\n9.0

 ” \n \n11:45 -12:00 Q & A session.  \n \nSpeakers:\n \nKen Chad – Ken 
 Chad Consulting\nKen gained his MA from the Information Science Department
  at City University in London. He is also an alumnus of the Warwick Univer
 sity Business Innovation and Growth Programme which he completed in 2006. 
 He has over 20 years experience in the library software business working i
 n support\, project management\, implementation\, sales and marketing and 
 at Executive Director/Board level. His customers included a wide range of 
 academic\, research\, college\, public\, corporate and national libraries 
 in the UK and throughout the world. \n\nKen set up his consulting business
  in 2007 to help enable libraries to deliver improved services and reduce 
 costs through more effective and imaginative use of technology. His consul
 ting activities include reviewing/auditing library IT infrastructure and s
 ystems and help with strategy\, requirements and the procurement of new an
 d replacement systems. He also provides market intelligence and horizon sc
 anning services for and about the information and library technology secto
 r. Projects have included work for the UK’s JISC (Joint Information Syst
 ems Committee)\, SCONUL (Society of College\, National and University Libr
 aries) and RIN (Research Information Network) as well as individual librar
 ies and businesses. He has published articles and presented widely on the 
 strategic impact of technology-driven change. \n\nKen is a member (MCLIP) 
 of CILIP \, ALA and a committee member of UKSG. He set up and manages a nu
 mber of free\, open community resources including (for SCONUL) the Higher 
 Education Library Technology (HELibTech) wiki\, Local Government Library T
 echnology (LGLibTech) and Open Specifications for Library Systems (LibTech
 RFP)\n \nGurdish Sandhu – University of East London\nGurdish has over 20
  years experience of working in the academic libraries. Currently she is w
 orking as an associate director at the University of East London. She is r
 esponsible for the strategic development of library systems & technology\,
  ECDL service\, e-services\, collections development\, digitisation projec
 ts and research support.   Her focus is to align library services with the
  mission and vision of the university and deliver the library/ information
  services efficiently\, just in time and cost affectively by deploying ICT
  judiciously. She has qualifications in computing\, library and informatio
 n studies and business administration and has implemented several large sc
 ale internal & external projects ranging from collections management\, dig
 ital library\, establishment of integrated help desk\, replacing & develop
 ing library systems\, website development etc.\n \nAdjoa Boateng – Colle
 ctions Development Manager\, University of East London\nHer professional a
 ctivities include active membership of CPD25 Task group 2 members and IFLA
 \nAdjoa has previously presented on Information literacy for the popular L
 inkedIn group London Information and Knowledge Exchange (LIKE)\, EPUGUKI a
 nd NAG. She facilitated the workshop “Moving sectors: Practical pathways
  to a different role” for the 2012 CILIP New Professionals Day and has a
