SUMMARY:Copyright For Higher Education Professionals (Professional Qualific
ations Series) [Event Ref. No. TG1/QSJUN]
DESCRIPTION:Please note that this event is also advertised in the 'Professi
onal Qualifications Support Workshops' section of our events calendar. \n\
ncpd25's programme of ten two-hour workshops is devised primarily to suppo
rt CILIP Chartership and ACLIP candidates. However\, many of the events in
the programme are highly relevant to staff working as Library Assistants\
, Senior Library Assistants and so on. The events are aimed\, therefore\,
at all levels of library staff - who may or may not be seeking Certificati
on or Chartership\, but who wish to further their professional skills and
development.\n\nPlaces are available on the whole series (£150 for cpd25
members\, £200 for external organisations) or individual events (£28 for
  cpd25 members\, £48 otherwise).\n\nMonique Ritchie is Brunel University
’s Copyright and Digital Resources Officer\, based in the Library’s Ac
ademic Support Team. Her role is university-wide\, providing centralised s
upport and training on all things copyright to staff and students\, academ
ic and admin staff and students\, with a focus on the digital environment.
\n\nAims and Objectives:\nUsing copyright material legally even for educat
ional purposes can be complicated. For example\, permission or a licence i
s always required when sharing copyright material with multiple users\, an
d further permission is required for dissemination via electronic means
 – e-mail\, u-Link\, intranets.\n\nThis session aims to break down the my
ths surrounding the use of copyright content for educational purposes and
outline permitted uses of copyright material in relation to both the analo
gue and digital environments.\n\nThrough a presentation and interactive sc
 enario-based session\, participants will:\n\n• develop an understanding
of the principles of copyright and statutory exceptions for educational pu
rposes and private research/study\n\n• gain knowledge information on per
mitted uses of copyright material by staff and students under educational
copyright licensing\n\n• develop an awareness of the complexity of manag
ing copyright in a digital environment and individual and institutional li
ability for copyright infringement\n\nParticipants will also have the oppo
rtunity to pose questions on copyright issues in general and receive guida
nce on best practice and are encouraged to bring questions based on real l
ife issues for discussion.\n\nVenue: Room LG39\, Maughan Library\, Kings C
 ollege London http://www.kcl.ac.uk/iss/library/maughan.html\n\nPlease note
that there are limited places available for this event.\n\nCancellations
less than one week before the event will be charged a 50% cancellation fee
. In the event of a ‘no-show’ on the day\, the full fee will be charge
d.\n\nTo book please use our online booking form or email the administrato
