DESCRIPTION:The position of Subject Librarian – or Liaison Librarian\, or
  Information Specialist\, or any number of other variations - remains a ke
 y one in most academic libraries and is one that many new professionals as
 pire towards. However\, in recent years\, the nature of the role has chang
 ed considerably\, with a number of libraries adopting a more ‘functional
 ’ structure\, and a few dispensing with the position altogether. At the 
 same time\, building relationships and links with academic colleagues in o
 rder to ensure that the library’s services and resources best support th
 e university’s teaching and research is as important as it has ever been
 .\n\nPete Williams\, who manages a team of Subject Librarians at Birkbeck 
 (and previously was one\, at two different institutions) will present a su
 rvey of current trends in academic liaison\, offer some thoughts about how
  these positions may continue to evolve in the coming years\, and give a f
 ew pointers about skills that employers might be looking for. Samantha Hal
 ford\, who is now a Research Librarian at City\, University of London\, wi
 ll talk about her new position and how this differs from her previous\, mo
 re subject-based role.\n\nWe hope that this workshop will appeal both to p
 eople thinking of applying for subject librarian positions in the future a
 s well as those already working in academic liaison roles.\n\nAs part of t
 he cpd25 Aspects programme\, this workshop is aimed at library staff looki
 ng to acquire additional skills and knowledge or staff working towards Cha
