DESCRIPTION:Who should attend?\n\nThis event is aimed at those with an inte
 rest in Data Protection\, and those that deal with data protection as part
  of their roles at work.\n\nWhat will the event cover?\n\nThe event will h
 ighlight the service that JISC Legal provides covering data protection\, t
 he legalities of data protection and also will include case studies from o
 ne or possibly two institutions concerning data protection policies and pr
 ocedures.\n\nSpeakers:\n\nJason Miles-Campbell\, Service Manager\, JISC Le
 gal\, University of Strathclyde. \n\nJason joined JISC Legal in 2004 as th
 e Service Manager. JISC Legal's role is to ensure that legal issues do not
  become a barrier to the development and adoption of new information and c
 ommunication technologies in the UK further and higher education sectors. 
  Jason's job is to efficiently allocate the Service's resources to the man
 y demands on its expertise\, to lead in terms of the Service's front line 
 work\, and to contribute to the development of its strategy.\n\nJason stud
 ied English Law and French Law at University College London in the dark an
 d distant past.  In 1994 he became a lecturer in law\, specialising in Eur
 opean law\, consumer law\, and then IT law\, and his ten years' experience
  in higher education included a stint as head of department.  In 2004\, he
  moved on to join JISC Legal\, and has been assisting the further and high
 er education sectors in his current role since.  In 2008\, he added an LL.
 M. in IT and Telecoms Law from Strathclyde University to his qualification
 s.\n\nParticular interests include copyright law (including the intricacie
 s of open educational resources)\, access management legal issues\, gadget
 s\, travel\, Girls Aloud\, and haggis wontons (his culinary speciality). \
 n\nColin Penman\, Records Manager\, Data Protection and Freedom of Informa
 tion Officer\, University College London Records Office. \n\nColin is a re
 cords manager and archivist with experience in public and private sectors\
 , and a specialist in privacy\, data protection and freedom of information
 .  He went to UCL from the British Library\, though he has worked previous
 ly for the NHS. \n\nLynn Young\, Corporate Archivist and Data Protection M
 anager\, The British Library. \n\nLynn Young is a qualified archivist and 
 records manager who\, as Corporate Archivist and Data Protection Manager a
 t the British Library\, is responsible for advising the Library on all asp
 ects of privacy and data protection.\n\nHer previous experience includes i
 nformation governance and compliance at the University of Surrey\, and arc
 hives and records management at the V&A.  Lynn currently chairs the Archiv
 es and Records Association’s Legislation and Standards Committee.\n\nOut
