We will provide practical steps to help attendees actively promote engagement with BSL users ensuring accessibilit y\, and our ‘hands on’ session in our virtual breakout rooms provide a ttendees the opportunity to learn basic fingerspelling and BSL relevant to your organisation.\n\nDot's teachers are all Deaf BSL users. They are the best people to teach their language and answer your questions from person al experience. They will teach the session in BSL – so you can immerse y ourselves in sign language. We will provide an interpreter to voiceover th e session and interpret your questions.\n\nTrainer:\n\nKathleen Grehan\, D irector\, Dot Sign Language\n\nKathleen is a Deaf graduate of the social s ciences and a qualified teacher of British Sign Language with a particular interest in BSL linguistics. Since starting Dot Sign Language in 2011 she has made it her mission to deliver first class and inspiring lessons in B SL and Deaf Awareness. A priority for her has always been to make the lear ning process enjoyable\, as much a social event as an educational experien ce. Kathleen also enjoys going out to local schools and youth groups to gi ve them a taste of BSL\, Deaf awareness and Deaf culture. She strongly bel ieves that we should try and engage all young children and get them to lea rn this beautiful\, visual language. This way we can reduce that gap betwe en Deaf and hearing people and help eliminate social isolation of Deaf peo ple of all ages.\n\nApart from her teaching duties\, Kathleen plays a full and active role in all aspects of Dot’s business. This includes marketi ng\, future planning\, finance\, website content and update and basic admi nistration. A relatively recent achievement that has excited her is the ch allenge of designing her own curriculum and assessments in BSL\, to delive r a Stage 1 course to undergraduates and postgraduates at the University o f Surrey. This has required her to bring BSL in line\, as far as possible\ , with the eleven spoken languages in the program. BSL has quickly became a firm favourite with the students. Kathleen now delivers three Stage 1 co urses each year and this year\, for the first time\, she was asked to deli ver a Stage 2 course.\n\nIn her previous career Kathleen has been a Disabi lity/Deaf Campaigner for four organisations: National Union of Students (N US)\; RNID\, BDA and Disability Rights Commission (DRC) between October 20 00 and September 2011.
