DESCRIPTION:As a line manager\, working in a library\, do you ever wish you
  knew more about employment law? Would you like to be more confident in ad
 dressing any contractual issues that might arise with part-time staff or f
 ixed- term staff? How about issues concerning maternity leave or flexible 
 working?\n\nIf you would like to learn a little more about the law relatin
 g to these matters then this interactive workshop could be for you.\n\nThe
  workshop will be given by Philip Lott. Philip is a specialist and practit
 ioner in Employment Law. His ‘day job’ is as Senior Solicitor to a maj
 or teachers’ and lecturers’ union - the Association of Teachers and Le
 cturers (ATL). His background is in local government and he has spent thre
 e years as a full-time legal adviser to a University.\n\nIn recent years\,
  he has designed and presented many lively and informative courses and tra
 ining events for managers and HR staff in Further and Higher Education. Pa
 rticipants find his interactive and energetic approach both enjoyable and 
 effective. His clients include: UCEA (the Universities and Colleges Employ
 ers’ Association)\, the UPA (the Universities Personnel Association) as 
 well as many individual old and new Universities.\n\nThe seminar will incl

 (tea\, coffee and biscuits)\n\n11.15am Continuing our examination of real-
 life issues\, we will consider\no Industrial action\no Bullying at work/st
 ress claims\no Dealing with intermittent/long term illness\no Contracts/va
 riations to contracts and collective agreements\n\n12.00pm: Individual Emp
 loyment Rights\nTo reinforce the knowledge gained from the case studies\, 
 an easily-accessible overview of all the main employment rights\, from unf
 air dismissal and redundancy rights\, to health and safety and time off en
 titlements.\n\n1.00pm: Lunch Break\n\n1.45pm: Equal Opportunities Quiz/Wor
 kshop\nTo ease us into an afternoon devoted to understanding the essential
 s of equal opportunities law\, we will discuss practical scenarios dealing
  with:\no Equal opportunities - who is protected?\no Appointments/intervie
 ws\no The rights of part-time staff\no Complaints of harassment\no Request
 s for part-time/flexible working\n\n3.00pm: Break (tea\, coffee and biscui
 ts)\n\n3.15pm: Continuing our examination of real-life issues\, we will co

 ties\nAgain\, to reinforce the knowledge gained from the case studies\, a 
 concise and pragmatic guide to the law (and practice) on all the main bran
 ches of discrimination protection.\n\n4:15pm: Summary and Questions.\n\nTh
 e workshop will be held in The Hardy Room at the London Mathematical Socie
