SUMMARY:Engaging and Supporting Researchers [Event Ref. No. TG3/ESR]

at innovative practice in engaging and supporting researchers across a va
riety of areas. Presentations will explore using library collections to pr
omote research\, support researchers and inspire and underpin public engag
ement initiatives\, assisting researchers with practical tips and methods
for organising their professional online identity using social media\, and
  supporting scholarly communication.\n\nProgramme\n\n09.45 – 10.00 Arriv

ections and Engagement\, Senate House Library\, University of London\n\nTh
e presentation will explore several ways in which Senate House Library is
opening up and developing its collections to promote research and support
researchers\, as well as providing a platform for showcasing research outp
uts via public engagement programmes. It will feature case studies from re
cent and planned engagement seasons such as ‘Shakespeare: Metamorphosis
’\, ‘Radical Voices’ and Reformation’ alongside new initiatives su
ch as collection-focused research open days and community outreach work.\n

 \nAllan Parsons\, Academic Liaison Librarian\, University of Westminster\n
\nWhile official online professional identities on a university website ma
y seem more stable than the apparent precariousness of social media\, offi
cial identities are either ‘on’ or ‘off’ and do not permit the dev
elopment of a coherent identity over time\, only a series of disconnected
‘nows’. Since one cannot afford to disappear with no indication of whe
re one is reappearing in the contemporary period\, i.e. one must be always
‘on’\, social media become essential for cohering one’s identity wh
ile permitting professional development through fostering different aspect
s of one’s identity. Practical ways of organising one’s professional o
nline identity are outlined and discussed.\n\n11.50 – 12.30 Pushing at a
 n open door?\n\nJune Hedges\, Head of Liaison &amp\; Support Services\, Un
iversity College London\n\nThe session will provide an overview of UCL’s
