SUMMARY:The Equality Act and its impact on Libraries [TG2/Equalities]
DESCRIPTION:The Equality Act 2010 applies to everyone who provides a servic
 e to the public\, covering statutory\, private\, voluntary and community s
 ector organisations. Everyone has the right to be treated with dignity and
  respect. This event looks at some of the implications of the act  for th
 e library &amp\; information sector.\n\nProgramme\n\nIn this session we wi
 ll hear from The British Library's Disability Support Worker\, Jason Murra
 y\, who will focus on the practical challenges of providing support to all
 ow access for all and information on what equipment is used at the BL and 
 adjustments made in the past.\n\nBen Watson\, Accessible Information Advis
 er at the University of Kent\, will discuss driving inclusiveness across 
 the university to enable wider adoption of assistive technology through th
 e Opportunity\, Productivity\, Engagement\, Reducing Barriers\, and Achiev
 ement (OPERA) Project as well as outlining the vital role libraries play i
 n delivering an accessible learning experience for all.\n\nWe also welcome
  Dr. Kit Heyam\, who will provide a conversational\, non-judgemental space
  to increase confidence and familiarity around trans issues\, and to learn
  how to create a positive experience for trans library users. Covering the
  basics of trans identities and related terminology alongside practical as
 pects of trans inclusivity in libraries\; including front line social inte
 ractions\, safeguarding trans users’ confidentiality\, and signalling th
 at your library is a trans-friendly space.\n\nAttendees will have the chan
 ce to ask questions and discuss problems specific to their area of work\, 
 and there will also be an opportunity to ask anonymous questions.\n\n\nVen
 ue\nBronte Room\, British Library\n\n\nCost\n£85 for members\n£130 for o
 ther institutions\n\nCancellations less than one week before the event wil
 l be charged a 50% cancellation fee.\nIn the event of a ‘no-show’ on t
