SUMMARY:Visit to the prison library at HMP Lewes [TG3v/Lewes]
DESCRIPTION:Lewes acquired a new prison in the middle of the 19th century\,
  partially planned on the radial system and built of local flint\, surroun
 ded by a high wall. The prison was situated outside the town when it was b
 uilt and a generous amount of land was enclosed within the perimeter. This
  has allowed for the building of additional facilities over the years\, in
 cluding a new 174 accommodation unit\, gymnasium\, multi-faith centre and 
 the library.\n\nToday the prison is fully listed and stands at the western
  end of the town and is within the South Downs National Park. The role of 
 HMP Lewes is primarily to serve the local courts\, but also accommodates s
 ome sentenced prisoners and those awaiting release.\n\n\nPrisoners can vis
 it the Library once a week. The library has Books\, CDs\, DVDs and Tapes

 nBN7 1EA\n\n\nThe visit will include a talk and a tour of the prison libra
 ry with a chance to ask questions.\nAll visitor will be required to bring 
 photo ID.\n\nBookings for visits are open to members of the M25 Consortium
  of Academic Libraries only.\nPlease note that places are limited.\n\nTo r

 e ask that you let us know this as soon as possible. Cancellations receive
 d less than three working days before the event will be charged a £15 can
 cellation fee. In the event of a ‘no-show’ on the day\, £25 will be c
 harged.
