DESCRIPTION:Please note that this event is also advertised in the 'Professi
 onal Qualifications Support Workshops' section of our events calendar. \n\
 ncpd25's programme of ten two-hour workshops is devised primarily to suppo
 rt CILIP Chartership and ACLIP candidates. However\, many of the events in
  the programme are highly relevant to staff working as Library Assistants\
 , Senior Library Assistants and so on. The events are aimed\, therefore\, 
 at all levels of library staff - who may or may not be seeking Certificati
 on or Chartership\, but who wish to further their professional skills and 
 development.\n\nPlaces are available on the whole series (£150 for cpd25 
 members\, £200 for external organisations) or individual events (£28 for
  cpd25 members\, £48 otherwise).\n\nAim\nTo understand the importance of 
 sound financial management\, sources of funding and the factors which infl
 uence financial decision making\n\nObjectives\nBy the end of the session p
 articipants will:\n1. Understand both the institutional and the library st
 rategic planning context\n2. Appreciate the stages of the budget planning 
 cycle\n3. Understand how to allocate funds to resources and services withi
 n budget constraints\n4. Understand how to use budget modelling to make st
 affing changes within financial constraints\n5. Understand the main elemen
 ts of financial control\n\nMethods\nA mixture of presentations\, discussio
 n and practical budget planning exercises using Excel\n\nProgramme\nTo be 
 confirmed.\n\nPre Session Requirements\nThis is an interactive workshop wi
 th a range of group activities. No financial skills are required but an ab
 ility to use simple Excel spreadsheets will be helpful\, but not essential
