DESCRIPTION:Legal Research Skills Workshop\n30th November 2004\nUniversity 
 of Surrey\n2pm to 5pm\n\nThis workshop is introductory in nature\, and is 
 aimed at those who are new to legal research\, or who would like a refresh
 er course. It is aimed at anyone who is unfamiliar with online legal resea
 rch tools\, particularly those who work on enquiry desks. The session will
  cover good free resources on the Internet. The session will not cover sub
 scription services such as Lexis or Westlaw. The workshop's focus will be 
 upon sources and materials for the UK and its devolved jurisdictions. Howe
 ver\, we will include some coverage of materials for the European Union an
 d an outline of how to find sources for other jurisdictions. It will be ne
 cessary in the course of the workshop to mention some prominent legal publ
 ications in print\, but the workshop will concentrate on free materials on
  the Internet.\n\nParticipants will have an opportunity to:\n\n      Explo
 re good free legal resources on the web with the help of a workbook (brows
 ing and searching)\n\n      Retrieve and examine examples of legislation\,
  case reports\, and journal articles\n\n      Explore some resources on di
 fferent branches of law\, e.g. family\, employment\, criminal\, etc.\n\n  
     Complete exercises from the workbook and get feedback\n\n      Exchang
 e ideas with other participants and with the workshop facilitators\n\nThe 
 workshop will be interactive and participants will be able to use Internet
  resources “hands on??? to complete a workbook of tasks.\n\nWorkshop Fac
