DESCRIPTION:CPD25 New Managers Skills Workshop Series 2005\n26 January\, 9 
 February\, 23 February 2005\n9.45am to 4.30pm\nKing's College London\nMaug
 han Library\n\nThe programme consists of three\, one-day workshops and has
  been specifically designed for staff in academic libraries and informatio
 n services who have some limited experience of managing or supervising sta
 ff. This course is also suitable for those new to a management role or wit
 h experience and wanting to refresh their skills. The three sessions are l
 inked and previous participants found this approach to be particularly hel
 pful\, allowing issues and questions raised during one session to be cover
 ed in subsequent workshops.\n\nThe sessions are intended to be practical. 
 Participants will be encouraged to share ideas and approaches to identify 
 individual service action plans\, which can be implemented on their return
  to work. Participants must be able to attend all three sessions and be pr
 epared to carry out short practical assignments between the sessions.\n\nO
 verall objectives\n\n      To provide a co-coordinated training programme 
 which reflects the specific needs of Information Services staff within HE 
 institutions\n\n      To help participants to identify the key elements of
  managing and supporting staff in the context of change\n\n      To give p
 ractical help in achieving results through others\, management skills and 
 styles\, managing effective teams\, managing performance\, dealing with di
 fficult situations and managing your own development.\n\n      To allow an
  exchange of ideas and experience across different institutions\n\n      T
 o share good practice from within library and information services and els
 ewhere\n\n      To improve individual skills and self confidence\n\n      
 To encourage a problem solving approach through the preparation of individ

 nd other techniques\n\n      Dealing with difficult and sensitive issues:

 \n\n      Managing ourselves: What next?\n\n      Programme evaluation and
  end of session\n\nCost is £200 for CPD25 members\, £260 for M25 affilia
 te members and £320 for other institutions\, including refreshments\n\nPl
 ease note that there are 12 places available for this event\, which will b
 e allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. Bookings will close on the
  5th January 2005\, cancellations after that date will incur a 75% cancell
 ation fee. In the event of a “no show??? on the day 100% cancellation ch
 arges will apply.
