SUMMARY:Professional Qualification Workshops: Copyright For Higher Educatio
n Professionals [Event Ref. No. TG1/PQW5]
DESCRIPTION:Twitter – #cpd25PQW5\n\nThis series is devised primarily to s
upport candidates for professional qualifications. However\, many of the e
vents in the programme are highly relevant to all levels of library staff
 – who may or may not be seeking Certification or Chartership\, but who w
ish to further their professional skills and development.\n\nUsing copyrig
ht material legally even for educational purposes can be complicated. For
example\, permission or a licence is always required when sharing copyrigh
t material with multiple users\, and further permission is required for di
 ssemination via electronic means – e-mail\, u-Link\, intranets.\n\nThis
session aims to break down the myths surrounding the use of copyright cont
ent for educational purposes and outline permitted uses of copyright mater
ial in relation to both the analogue and digital environments.\n\nThrough
a presentation and interactive scenario-based session\, participants will:
\n\n- develop an understanding of the principles of copyright and statutor
y exceptions for educational purposes and private research/study\n\n- gain
knowledge information on permitted uses of copyright material by staff an
d students under educational copyright licensing\n\n- develop an awareness
of the complexity of managing copyright in a digital environment and indi
vidual and institutional liability for copyright infringement\n\nParticipa
nts will also have the opportunity to pose questions on copyright issues i
n general and receive guidance on best practice and are encouraged to brin
g questions based on real life issues for discussion.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nSpeake
