However\, many of the e vents in the programme are highly relevant to all levels of library staff – who may or may not be seeking Certification or Chartership\, but who w ish to further their professional skills and development.\n\nThe aim of th is session is to understand the importance of sound financial management\, sources of funding and the factors which influence financial decision mak ing.\n\nWith a mixture of presentations\, discussion and practical budget planning exercises using Excel\, we will be addressing topics such as the importance of Financial Planning\, Budget Planning\, ‘The Budget Cycle\, ’ Budget Preparation and Allocation and Financial Control\n\n \;\n\n Speaker:\n\nNick Cowan\n\n \;\n\nBy the end of the session\, participa nts will be able to:\n\n1. Understand both the institutional and the libra ry strategic planning context.\n\n2. Appreciate the stages of the budget p lanning cycle.\n\n3. Understand how to allocate funds to resources and ser vices within budget constraints.\n\n4. Understand how to use budget modell ing to make staffing changes within financial constraints.\n\n5. Understan d the main elements of financial control.\n\nThis is an interactive worksh op with a range of group activities.
