DESCRIPTION:cpd25′s programme of nine two-hour workshops is devised prima
 rily to support CILIP Chartership and ACLIP candidates. However\, many of 
 the events in the programme are highly relevant to staff working as Librar
 y Assistants\, Senior Library Assistants and so on. The events are aimed\,
  therefore\, at all levels of library staff – who may or may not be seek
 ing Certification or Chartership\, but who wish to further their professio
 nal skills and development.\n\nPlaces are available on either the whole se
 ries (£200 for cpd25 members\, £300 for external organisations) or for i
 ndividual workshops (£50 for cpd25 members\, £75 otherwise).\n\nAim To u
 nderstand the importance of sound financial management\, sources of fundin
 g and the factors which influence financial decision making\n\nObjectives 
 By the end of the session participants will: 1. Understand both the instit
 utional and the library strategic planning context 2. Appreciate the stage
 s of the budget planning cycle 3. Understand how to allocate funds to reso
 urces and services within budget constraints 4. Understand how to use budg
 et modelling to make staffing changes within financial constraints 5. Unde
 rstand the main elements of financial control\n\nMethods A mixture of pres
 entations\, discussion and practical budget planning exercises using Excel

  This is an interactive workshop with a range of group activities. No fina
 ncial skills are required but an ability to use simple Excel spreadsheets
