 stants (or their equivalent)\n\nThis conference is aimed at HE Library/Inf
 ormation Services Supervisors in all their guises - a group that often see
 ms to be excluded from mainstream staff development provision. It is desig
 ned for delegates who may supervise staff\, services or both. \n\nFollowin
 g on from the success of last year’s event\, the main objectives of the 
 conference are as follows:\n•	To provide a rare opportunity for networki
 ng \n•	To advise directly of current and anticipated developments/challe
 nges in the academic library world\n•	To provide a forum for debate and 
 the sharing of good practice. \n\nDelegates will be able to select one vis
 it and two workshops with time for valuable feedback.\n\nOutline programme

 				\nVisits\n\nThe Library\, Institute of Education.  The Institute is on
 e of the world’s leading centres for education studies and related socia
 l sciences\, and is a graduate college of the University of London.  Its L
 ibrary forms part of Information Services\, which also include media\, com
 puting\, archives and telephone services. It has the largest collection in
  Europe of learned books and periodicals on educational studies.  \n\nSSEE
 S Library\, UCL.  This is the Library of the School of Slavonic and East E
 uropean Studies\, UCL.  It supports research\, teaching and study of Centr
 al Europe\, Eastern Europe and Russia.  It has important collections of bo
 oks and audiovisual material\, housed in a new award-winning building in T
 aviton Street.\n\nBirkbeck Library\, University of London.  This is the Li
 brary of Birkbeck College\, University of London.  In recent years it has 
 been extended and modernised.  It provides library and information service
 s to the staff and students of the College.  Users include many undergradu
 ates\, postgraduates\, researchers\, certificate students\, and distance l
 earners.  The diversity of its student body makes Birkbeck a “leading pr
 ovider of evening higher education”.\n\nSOAS Library\, University of Lon
 don.  SOAS is the School of Oriental and African Studies\, University of L
 ondon.  Its Library is an international centre for the study of Africa\, A
 sia and the Middle East.  It has over 1 million books\, many special colle
 ctions and archives\, and a growing number of electronic resources.\n\n\n 
 Workshops\n\nThe workshops will offer the opportunity to discuss a variety
  of topics 					\n* Reflective practice -  what does this entail? Can it i
 mprove the services we offer? Can anyone do it? What training is required?
 \n\n* Information Literacy -  why is this important to the library profess
 ion? What skills are needed? What new developments and approaches are avai
 lable\n		\n* New ways of learning -   a chance to discuss the many and var
 ied ways our new generation of students are learning. What technologies ar
 e available and how they can be used.\n\n* Widening participation / divers
 ity	- increasing numbers of students are attending HE for the first time. 
 How should staff be prepared to meet their specific needs? What barriers o
 r obstacles may be in their way?\n\n* Team leadership – the difference b
 etween leadership and management. What makes a good or bad team leader. Ar
 e teams a good thing?\n\n* International – so many different cultures wi
 th so many unique outlooks. How can staff be best prepared to meet so many

 t form\, and then submit your booking\, along with the filled out form\, a
 ll together by email. \n\nThe cost for the day\, including lunch and refre
 shments\, is £90 for cpd25 members and £125 for external delegates.
