SUMMARY:So You Want to Know About Open Access [TG2/ACCESS]
DESCRIPTION:This online event will provide attendees with an introduction
  to open access\, with the aim of demystifying the concepts and jargon ass
 ociated with it. Information will be provided on funding models\, the reas
 ons for open access\, locating sources\, and publishing open access materi
 al. The session is aimed at those new to the subject and those who would b
 enefit from a refresher after\, perhaps\, being bamboozled by the complex
 ity of the fast-changing open access publishing landscape but were too afr
 aid to ask!\n\nYou will get the opportunity to ask questions of our four e

 e Daoutis: I co-lead the Open Research team at the University of Surrey. T
 he Open Research team offers services\, advice and training on Open Access
 \, copyright\, research data management\, and research metrics. I work wit
 h others across the University (including the Doctoral College\, the Acade
 mic Lead Research Culture and Integrity\, the Research and Innovation offi
 ce and the IP office) to shape the direction of Open Research at the Unive
 rsity through strategic planning\, policy and practice.\n\nI also have res
 ponsibility for the Open Access and copyright/licensing elements of Open R
 esearch. Along with the Faculty Engagement librarians\, I design and deliv
 er communications and training related to Open Access to publications and 
 theses and related rights issues. I also advise on copyright for research\
 , learning and teaching.\n\nI have a special interest in making Open Resea
 rch part of research literacy for researchers\, teaching staff and student
 s. I am particularly proud of the Open Research online module I created as
  part of a plan to increase awareness of open practices.\n\nAs of 15 Augus
 t\, I will also work as a copyright support officer at UCL\, on a part-tim
 e basis\; a role I am very keen to begin!\n\nAdam Hill: As the Faculty Lib
 rarian for the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences at the Univers
 ity of Surrey I am a primary contact for all Library communications and su
 pport between the Library and the Faculty including advocacy of the latest
  developments in Open Research to research staff and students.\n\nI have r
 esponsibility for the Engineering and Physical Science Library collections
  and provide training for Research staff\, ECR’s and PGRs to help them u
 nderstand their information landscape\, providing them with the necessary 
 skills to enable them to find and use reputable sources of information\, a
 nd to manage and present their research\, including use of both Subscripti
 on and Open Access tools and resources.\n\nDr Emma Gallon is Books Manager
  at the University of London Press\, a predominantly open access publisher
  of humanities research. She has almost 12 years of experience in academic
  publishing having worked in commissioning and editorial roles at Ashgate 
 Publishing\, Routledge and Epigeum/Oxford University Press before joining 
 UoL Press. Her particular interests include open access publishing in the 
 humanities and open research.\n\nMegan Garry-Evans has worked in academic 
 journal publishing for 6 years. She has experience working across open acc
 ess\, hybrid and subscription journals for Nature\, Palgrave Macmillan and
  now the University of London Press.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nCost\n£25.00 members\n
