SUMMARY:Space Planning [Event Ref. No. TG3/SP]
DESCRIPTION:Making the best use of available space has always been an issue
of concern for libraries\, but in an increasingly digital world where use
rs come with enhanced expectations and funding remains tight\, getting the
space right is perhaps more important than ever. How do libraries and lib
rarians go about planning\, refurbishing and using their physical space to
ensure they can continue to deliver innovative and relevant services to t
heir users?\n\nThis half day event draws together a number of speakers fro
 m a mix of institutions\, each with first-hand experience of researching\,
planning\, negotiating and delivering very different library spaces. Pres
entations will cover how the nature of the space itself influences the way
it is used\, considering different types of users and their needs and all
ocations of space for study versus resource\, making the best of limited r
esources\, and what’s involved in a big library space project. There wil
l be the opportunity for participants to discuss issues and concerns aroun
d space planning with colleagues\, and to ask questions of our panel of sp
eakers.\n\nA visit to the University of East London’s New Stratford Libr
