  House Library\n\nSpeakers: David Clover (Institute of Commonwealth Studie
 s Library) and Donald Lickley (KCL) \n\nCPD25 is pleased to offer an after
 noon discussion forum on staff induction programmes on Tuesday 17th March 
 2009. The event will begin with lunch and will be followed by two case stu
 dies which discuss the staff induction programmes in two very different ac
 ademic libraries: a small research library and a large converged service. 
 The two speakers will cover the variety of induction training given to lib
 rary staff during their first three months.\n\nThe aim of the afternoon di
 scussion forum is to explore the whole process of creating a staff inducti
 on programme which is appropriate both for the institution and the new mem
 ber of staff. With budgets tight and increased pressure to maximise effici
 ency in all libraries\, the forum will discuss how to get the training bal
 ance right. The objectives of the afternoon are to:\n\n•	Learn about the
  staff induction programmes in other libraries.\n•	Identify some of the 
 key elements which should be included in induction programmes through disc
 ussion in breakout sessions\, and to explore the ideal timing of these ele
 ments during the first three months of a new member of staff.\n•	To exch
 ange ideas and experience on other important elements which could be inclu
 ded in staff induction programmes.\n\nThis afternoon seminar will benefit 
 staff development officers and other staff who are involved with programmi
