SUMMARY:Support for Researchers [Event Ref. No. TG5/SUPP]
DESCRIPTION:How do we support researchers? Support for the REF\, bibliometr
ics\, skills training for new researchers …\n\nLibrarians have always pr
ovided support for the research community\, but in recent years it has eme
rged as a key agenda and looks set to become a core activity in many unive
rsity libraries.\n\nThis half day event will provide an overview of some o
f the issues facing HE libraries\, including how the roles and skills of l
ibrarians need to develop to meet the needs of our research community. Pre
sentations from colleagues in libraries that have already implemented rese
arch support programmes will give an insight into how to provide support a
nd some ideas to take back to our own libraries.\n\nSpeakers: \n\nHelen Yo
ung\, Academic Librarian at Loughborough University Library and Jenny Coom
bs\, University of Nottingham will be talking about creating a reusable\,
online information literacy tutorial for researchers: A collaborative appr
oach. \n\nSarah Nicholas from Cardiff University will talk about the Conne
cted Researcher workshops. She'll reflect on the context of these social m
edia workshops for Cardiff's researchers\, first delivered in February 201
1\, the challenges presented in balancing practical and discursive content
\, how researchers responded to the workshops and how these and other work
shops fit within Cardiff University Libraries' centrally coordinated suppo
rt for researchers.\n\nJenny Delasalle from the University of Warwick will
be talking about library support for researchers offered at Warwick and t
he Wolfson Research Exchange. \n\nSarah Molloy\, Research Support Libraria
n at Queen Mary\, will be talking about her work in this area. \n\nDominic
Tate from Royal Holloway\, University of London will be talking about rol
ling out a Current Research Information System (CRIS) alongside an Institu
tional Repository (IR)\, promoting it as a service to researchers and capi
talising on academic engagement. \n\nOutline Programme: \n\n1:00 to 1:30:
