SUMMARY:Teaching Excellence Framework – what’s it all about and how wil
l it affect libraries? [Ref. TG2/TExF]
DESCRIPTION:Twitter: @cpd25_M25 #cpd25\n\nThe Teaching Excellence Framework
(TEF) was introduced by the Government in 2016 to recognise and reward ex
cellent learning and teaching\, and will be implemented by the Higher Educ
ation Funding Council for England (HEFCE). It will measure undergraduate e
ducation at present but postgraduate education is likely to be included an
d measured in future years.  It will be an annual exercise and will affec
t both reputation and finances – TEF outcomes will inevitably be used by
prospective students deciding where and what to study\; and a university
’s ability to raise student fees (in line with inflation) will be direct
ly linked to its TEF award (Gold\, Silver and Bronze).  A statement of fi
ndings from the assessors will be published in conjunction with the award.
Participation in the TEF is not obligatory\, and in order to be eligible
for TEF\, institutions need to have an approved access agreement and a jud
gement of satisfactory teaching quality.\n\nThe first TEF results were pub
lished in June 2017 which was considered to be a “trial year” and the
 distribution was 26% Gold\, 50% Silver and 24% Bronze.\n\nAt this event\,
we will have talks from speakers about the TEF aims and implementation and
how it will be affecting academic institutions. There will be a chance fo
r an exchange of experience session and a panel discussion at the end wher
e the speakers can answer questions as well.\n\nThis session will be usefu
l for library and information staff who want to find out about the TEF and
how they and their institution will be affected by it.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nSpea
