SUMMARY:Training for supervisors: role\, feedback & delegation (repeat) [TG
 4/Supervisor-repeat]
DESCRIPTION:*THIS EVENT IS NOW FULL AND A WAITING LIST IS AVAILABLE*\n\nPle
ase note\, this is a direct repeat of the event that took place on the 30t
h January 2023\n\nMost libraries have a supervisor role\, but managing sta
ff day-to-day without being their line manager is a tricky business. How d
o you delegate\, share knowledge and skills and correct errors when it can
seem like you have no real authority?\n\nThis 3-hour session clarifies th
e role &amp\; responsibilities of the supervisor\, giving clear guidelines
for the basic functions of supervising staff\, as well as tips for delega
ting\, upskilling\, giving feedback and dealing with challenges to your ro
le.\n\nWe aim to have a fun\, participatory session\, based around real co
ncerns and situations brought up on the course.\n\nProgramme:\n\nRole and
Delegation:\n\n Intros: supervisor problems\n Talk: your source of autho
rity\n Chat: checklist of supervisor role\n Talk: the delegation cycle\n
Group work: actions at each stage\n\nAfter listing common supervisor pro
blems\, there is a short presentation on the support supervisors can use w
hen supervising staff. We go on to discuss a checklist of supervisor roles
and style (empowering\, encouraging\, overseeing etc) which leads natural
ly into a discussion of the delegation cycle from setting a task to perfor
mance review. Each stage of this is analysed in breakout groups to come up
  with a good practice guide for delegation.\n\nFeedback\, Training &amp\;
Challenges:\n\n Group work: Bad news exercise\n Chat: how to give feedba
ck\n Exercise: training skills\n Debrief: training and upskilling\n Cha
t: challenges to your role\n\nComing back from the break\, we go into a fu
n ‘how NOT to give feedback’ exercise\, which leads into a discussion
on corrective feedback which can be empowering and productive We then look
at training/coaching via a demonstration exercise by the trainer which is
debriefed for good upskilling skills. Finally we look at ways in which st
aff can challenge the supervisor role\, and how to deal with these positiv
ely.\n\nAbout the trainer: \n\nAsh Charlton has delivered very successful
