How do you delegate\, share knowledge and skills and correct errors when it ca n seem like you have no real authority?\n\nThis 3-hour session clarifies t he role &\; responsibilities of the supervisor\, giving clear guideline s for the basic functions of supervising staff\, as well as tips for deleg ating\, upskilling\, giving feedback and dealing with challenges to your r ole.\n\nWe aim to have a fun\, participatory session\, based around real c oncerns and situations brought up on the course.\n\nProgramme:\n\nRole and Delegation:\n\n Intros: supervisor problems\n Talk: your source of auth ority\n Chat: checklist of supervisor role\n Talk: the delegation cycle\ n Group work: actions at each stage\n\nAfter listing common supervisor pr oblems\, there is a short presentation on the support supervisors can use when supervising staff. We go on to discuss a checklist of supervisor role s and style (empowering\, encouraging\, overseeing etc) which leads natura lly into a discussion of the delegation cycle from setting a task to perfo rmance review. Each stage of this is analysed in breakout groups to come u p with a good practice guide for delegation.\n\nFeedback\, Training &\; Challenges:\n\n Group work: Bad news exercise\n Chat: how to give feedb ack\n Exercise: training skills\n Debrief: training and upskilling\n Ch at: challenges to your role\n\nComing back from the break\, we go into a f un ‘how NOT to give feedback’ exercise\, which leads into a discussion on corrective feedback which can be empowering and productive We then loo k at training/coaching via a demonstration exercise by the trainer which i s debriefed for good upskilling skills. Finally we look at ways in which s taff can challenge the supervisor role\, and how to deal with these positi vely.\n\nAbout the trainer: \n\nAsh Charlton has delivered very successful and enjoyable HR and diversity-related courses and facilitated sessions f or over 20 years.
