SUMMARY:Training for supervisors: role\, feedback & delegation [TG4/Supervi
 sor]
DESCRIPTION:*THIS EVENT IS NOW FULL. NEW BOOKINGS WILL BE ADDED TO A WAITIN
G LIST*\n\nMost libraries have a supervisor role\, but managing staff day-
to-day without being their line manager is a tricky business. How do you d
elegate\, share knowledge and skills and correct errors when it can seem l
ike you have no real authority?\n\nThis 3-hour session clarifies the role
&amp\; responsibilities of the supervisor\, giving clear guidelines for th
e basic functions of supervising staff\, as well as tips for delegating\,
upskilling\, giving feedback and dealing with challenges to your role.\n\n
We aim to have a fun\, participatory session\, based around real concerns
and situations brought up on the course.\n\nProgramme:\n\nRole and Delegat
ion:\n\n Intros: supervisor problems\n Talk: your source of authority\n
Chat: checklist of supervisor role\n Talk: the delegation cycle\n Group
work: actions at each stage\n\nAfter listing common supervisor problems\,
there is a short presentation on the support supervisors can use when sup
ervising staff. We go on to discuss a checklist of supervisor roles and st
yle (empowering\, encouraging\, overseeing etc) which leads naturally into
a discussion of the delegation cycle from setting a task to performance r
eview. Each stage of this is analysed in breakout groups to come up with a
good practice guide for delegation.\n\nFeedback\, Training &amp\; Challen
ges:\n\n Group work: Bad news exercise\n Chat: how to give feedback\n E
xercise: training skills\n Debrief: training and upskilling\n Chat: chal
lenges to your role\n\nComing back from the break\, we go into a fun ‘ho
w NOT to give feedback’ exercise\, which leads into a discussion on corr
ective feedback which can be empowering and productive We then look at tra
ining/coaching via a demonstration exercise by the trainer which is debrie
fed for good upskilling skills. Finally we look at ways in which staff can
challenge the supervisor role\, and how to deal with these positively.\n\
