presence has become critical for our users\, understanding how they use a
nd exploit our online presence is key. This is a new session from CPD25. T
his event will be delivered by anthropologist Dr Donna Lanclos on methods
that can be used to better understand our users’ habits and techniques a
nd make improvements to our online systems when possible.\n\nThis event wi

e practical techniques. Over the break you will practice on your own and t
hen come back and learn how to use what you have observed\, and what other
workshop participants have learned\, to meaningful effect.\n\nThis sessio

of the session\, and we will be asking some participants to share their w
ork and reflections in the second session in this collaborative safe envir

r your own web environment and bring this to the second session.\n\nWork o
utside the session:\n\nYou will be allocated one of 3 techniques and will
practice this technique in between the two sessions - you will need to fin
d a volunteer to help with the testing–ideally someone unfamiliar with t
he library website/resources you are using\, and you should document what
you have learned\, what was challenging etc.  and then be willing to shar
e at the next session.\n\nOutcomes:\n\n 	 Participants will gain an under
standing of a range of techniques for online UX projects.\n Participants
will gain a deeper practice with one technique as a part of their homework
.\n Participants will be able to apply their understanding of UX techniqu
es to a particular situation in their place of work and can start planning
a project applying specific techniques to their situation.\n\nProgramme\n

ght be brought to bear for that project.\n Questions\n\nDonna Lanclos\n\n
I am an anthropologist and a folklorist and have been unapologetic about t
hose two things for quite a while\, now.  I found myself working in acade
mic libraries starting in 2009\, and since then have been thinking\, writi
ng\, and talking a lot about the nature of information\, digital and physi
cal places\, and higher education generally.  I see my work as relevant n
ot just to libraries or universities\, but to conversations about how we a
s a society make sure that people have opportunities to learn how to think
critically\, to practice those skills\, and to find their voices. I work
with a lot of different people. In addition to research and writing\, I co
nduct workshops\, facilitate discussions\, give talks\, and participate in
panel discussions on a range of topics that I find interesting.\n\nwww.do
