 The Britten-Pears Library\n\nThis world-famous Library contains a magnific

building was designed by Peter Collymore in 1964 and is situated adjacent
to The Red House on the site of former farm buildings and provides a uniq
ue and valuable research environment with full time specialist staff.\n\nT
he unique archives include the vast majority of Britten’s manuscripts fo
r his operas and other compositions (many on permanent loan from the natio
nal collection at the British Library)\, the extensive correspondence of B
ritten and Pears with other twentieth century musical figures\, the Aldebu
rgh Festival archive\, and much other related archival material. In additi
on the Library holds an important monograph collection originally collecte
d and used by Britten and Pears during their lifetimes. New books relating
to twentieth-century music and to the literary and artistic movements in
which Britten and Pears were interested are regularly added to this collec
tion. The Library also subscribes to a wide range of music journals and a
growing collection of online resources\, and seeks to acquire a copy of ev
ery commercially available sound recording of Britten’s music.\n\nThe Li
brary and The Red House also contain many inspirational works of art colle
cted by Britten and Pears during their lifetimes. For example\, the collec
