DESCRIPTION:cpd25 is delighted to offer a rare opportunity to attend an Ope
 n Day at Parliament for Librarians and Information Officers\, organised by
  the House of Commons Library & Information Service. This full-day event w
 ill take place on Wednesday\, 15th February 2011\, from 9.50am to 4.30pm. 
 The day is structured around presentations in the morning\, a sandwich lun
 ch\, followed by tours of one or two areas of the House\, including the Me
 mbers' Library.\n\nThe House of Commons Library is placed within the Depar
 tment of Information Services\, which delivers a wide range of information
 \, research and related services to Members of Parliament and the public. 
 The Library prepares a range of pre-prepared briefing material and online 
 services to inform both parliamentary debate and those involved in it. The
 se include detailed research papers on legislation and other topical issue
 s\, shorter standard notes on a wide range of current issues\, and debate 
 packs on current debates in the Chamber or Westminster Hall. It also provi
 des responses to requests from individual Members and their staff for info
 rmation and briefing in connection with their parliamentary duties. The Li
 brary takes a leading role in parliament-wide information management activ
 ities\, notably the indexing of parliamentary material to facilitate acces
 s and reuse by others.\n\nPlaces on this event for cpd25 are limited to TE
 N only\, and will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis. In view
  of the limited numbers\, we can only allow one attendee per institution.\
 n\nCost: £20 per place (payable by cheque to GBS re HOC Administration). 
 Cheques will need to be sent direct to the Houses of Parliament - further 
 instructions regarding this will be sent to the successful attendees once
