DESCRIPTION:This is an exclusive opportunity to visit a number of the depar
 tmental libraries and the central archive of the British Museum.  With ov
 er 350\,000 items ranging from the 16th century to the present day\, the l
 ibraries of the British Museum represent a significant research resource i
 n their own right.  Some of the collections are among the most specialise
 d in their field and consequently rank among the finest in the country.\n\
 nThe visit will incorporate a tour of the following:\n\nThe Anthropology L
 ibrary and Research Centre\n\nWith over 130\,000 items\, the ALRC is widel
 y recognised as one of the world’s finest anthropology libraries.  The 
 collection ranges from 16th century to the present day and covers all aspe
 cts of anthropology.  It is global in its geographical scope but is parti
 cularly strong the Commonwealth and the Americas.\n\nThe Central Archive\n
 \nThe Central Archive of the British Museum contains the administrative re
 cords of the Museum dating back to its foundation. They are records create
 d by the Museum and which have been selected for permanent preservation wh
 ich include minutes of meetings of the Museum’s Trustees\, departmental 
 reports on acquisitions and administration\, policy and financial records.
  Holdings also include papers of former members of staff and records of th
 e administration of the Round Reading Room with application forms from man
 y notable readers.\n\nThe Middle East Library\n\nHoused in the famous Arch
 ed Room\, once used by the British Library\, the Middle East library cover
 s the archaeology\, history\, languages\, art and architecture\, and liter
 ature (excepting Islamic literature) of the Middle East and Central Asia f
 rom the earliest human occupation to the present day.\n\nThe Prints and Dr
 awings Library\n\nThe Prints and Drawings library comprises some 50\,000 i
 tems relating to the history of Western prints and drawings\, making it on
 e of the UK’s major art libraries.\n\nThe Prehistory and Europe Library\
 n\nThe Prehistory and Europe departmental library was created in 2002 afte
 r the merging of the Prehistory and Roman Britain and Medieval and Later A
 ntiquities departments. The collection covers the Palaeolithic period arou
 nd the world\, the Neolithic\, Bronze and Iron ages in Europe\, the Roman 
 occupation of Britain\, Byzantium\, the Early and Late Medieval period in 
 both Britain and the continent and the European decorative arts from the R
 enaissance to the twentieth century.\n\nThis visit is free of charge. To r
