 index.html[/B]\n\nWe are pleased to offer a cpd25 seminar on meeting stude
 nts’ expectations.  Four speakers have been invited to describe how thei
 r institutions are responding to changes in users’ expectations and how 
 they are meeting users’ needs.  They will talk about their experiences i
 n this area and take your questions.  \n\nTopics being addressed will incl
 ude:\n•	Extended opening hours\n•	Changing use of services and buildin
 gs \n•	Creating a new library based on readers’ consultation.\n\nSpeak
 ers:\n\n[B]Liz Annetts\nAssistant Director\, User Services and Staff Devel
 opment \nBrunel University[/B]\n\nLiz will give a presentation on extendin
 g opening hours at Brunel University Library.\nLiz has worked for short pe
 riods in industry and public libraries and is a fairly newcomer to HE.  Mo
 st of her work has been in FE colleges where Liz has gained a wide and var
 ied experience ranging from libraries and learning centres to managing cur
 riculum and teaching.  Liz was involved in new building projects at 3 diff
 erent colleges.  The experience was very useful when she moved to Brunel\,
  as the library was undergoing a new extension which was completed in Sept
 ember 2004.  \nHer current role at Brunel includes customer services\, sta
 ff training and development\, and managing the building.  Brunel library o
 pened 24/7 for the first time during the exam period in 2006 and will be o
 pen to 1 am for 6 weeks this year before and during the exam period.\n\n[B
 ]Penny Burden\nHead of Skills and Personal Development \nUniversity of Sur
 rey[/B]\n\nPenny will report on the opening of SPLASH (Student Personal Le
 arning and Study Hub)\, a new student-centre resource area within the Univ
 ersity Library.\nPenny’s role as Head of Skills and Personal Development
  is to lead a team which works in partnership with others across the Unive
 rsity to promote innovation approaches to student skills development.  Her
  main role at the present time is establishing SPLASH and integrating othe
 r parts of University provision within this\, particularly Personal Develo
 pment Planning processes across the University.  Penny is involved in many
  other projects which support students on campus as well as those on Profe
 ssional Training Year placements.\n\n[B]Katherine Melling\nSocial Sciences
  Deputy Librarian\nOxford University[/B]\n\nKatherine joined Oxford Univer
 sity Library Services in 2004 from UCL Library Services.  She is currently
  on secondment from her post as Subject Consultant (French and Italian) ba
 sed in the Taylor Institution Library\, covering the maternity leave for t
 he Deputy Social Science Librarian.\nKatherine will talk about creating a 
 new Social Science Library at Oxford University based on reader consultati
 on.\n\n[B]Stevie Russell\nSite Librarian\nUCL Human Communication Science 
 Library[/B]\n\nStevie is Site Librarian at the UCL Human Communication Sci
 ence (HCS) Library\, a branch of UCL Library Services that also has a UK r
 ole as the National Information Centre for Speech-Language Therapy (NiCeST
 ).  It is a small but highly specialised library\, serving the academic an
 d clinical communities in the filed of speech and language science.  The 1
 9th century\, listed hospital building which houses the HCS department and
  library is currently undergoing a major refurbishment.  Stevie has been i
 nvolved in the design of a brand new library\, and has planned the move to
  temporary premises while the work is being done.  \n\nProgramme:\n\n1.30
