The visit is to the Library of Westminster Abbey which is housed in the former dormitory of the medieval monastery, converted into use as a library at the end of the 16th century. With bookcases installed in 1623 the library can claim to have the oldest interior of any library in London. The library contains early printed books, medieval manuscripts and archives, as well as a modern collection relating to the history and activities of Westminster Abbey since its foundation in the middle of the 10th century. The visit will include a talk from the Librarian about the history and nature of the collections followed by an opportunity to view an exhibition of selected items from the library and archive.
