This workshop is aimed at librarians and academic tutors in the higher education sector and specialist libraries interested in knowing how technologies including assistive technology could benefit students, both disabled and mainstream , to enhance their educational experience and achievements. It will share expertise and approaches from an academic librarians, a senior technical advisor and specialist British Library staff.

Programme:

1.00 – 1.30  – Arrival and registration and tea/coffee

1.30 – 1.40 – Welcome and introduction  – Vicky Robertson and Paul Allchin

1.40 – 2.10 – Sally Ann Russell – “Dyslexia, visual stress and the appropriate use of assistive technology”

2.10 – 2.50 – Barbara Denton – “Assistive technology in higher education libraries: challenges and opportunities”

2.50 – 3.00 – Q & As

3.00 – 3.30 – Tea and coffee and networking

3.30 – 4.00 – Jason Murray – “Assistive technology support for researchers at the British Library”

4.00 – 4.50  – Alistair MacNaught – “Policy, practice and self awareness”

4.50 – 5.00 – Q & As and concluding remarks

5.00 – Close of course.

Joining Instructions:
Please meet at the information desk in the main hall – you will need to put your coats and bags in the cloakroom and then you will be given a visitor pass and escorted to the meeting room.

Please note that there are limited places available for this event.

Cost: £25 for members and £36 for other institutions.

Cancellations less than one week before the event will be charged a 50% cancellation fee. In the event of a ‘no-show’ on the day, the full fee will be charged.
