Career Development Day for Library and Information Assistants

This session is aimed at staff in Library and Information Assistant roles who are looking to progress their career, or perhaps change direction. Other library staff may also find it useful if they are applying for a new job.

Session overview:

This one day course is perfect for anyone who is looking to apply for a new job. You will learn how best to complete applications forms, construct CVs and covering letters. The session will also cover the interview process with practical advice on how to prepare for, and be successful at, interview. Two visits have also been arranged to give you an insight into business and health libraries. They will provide an understanding of how the libraries operate; you will have an opportunity to talk to staff about the roles they have.

Expert staff from Sue Hill Recruitment will be leading the morning sessions and they bring with them a wealth of knowledge and experience in this area.

Programme details:

9.30 – 10.00am Arrival, registration and coffee

10.00 – 10.05am Welcome

10.05 – 10.35am Identifying your skills

10.35 – 11.05am Presentation on application process, including CVs, Application Forms and Covering letters

11.05 – 11.30am Workshop session on application process

11.30 – 11.45am Tea

11.45 – 11.50am Closing thoughts on application process

11.50 – 12.15pm Presentation on interviews

12.15 – 12.45pm Interview practice workshop and conclusion

12.45 – 1.45pm Lunch

1.45pm Depart for library visits
Each visit will include a tour of the library and a presentation about the Library and the services it delivers

Cancellations less than one week before the event will be charged a 50% cancellation fee. In the event of a ‘no-show’ on the day, the full fee will be charged.
