CPD25 – Introduction to Chairing Meetings 9.30am – 5.30pm 14th December 2005 facilitated by Glenor Roberts of LEVELheaded Aim To enable participants to be more effective chairs of meetings. Objectives By the end of the course you will be able to: • select the right sort of meeting for the purpose • plan and prepare before a meeting • design and use agenda which structure the meeting and aid advance preparation • list the responsibilities of the Chair and the Clerk throughout the meeting cycle • structure and control meetings appropriately • use the two principle key chairing skills • list positive ways of dealing with common problem behaviours exhibited in meetings Level For those with limited experience of chairing meetings and no previous training. Approach Following a series of exercises and discussions, the group will undertake a practice meeting at which some volunteer participants will be asked to chair.
