With a mixture of presentations, practical exercises and discussion this brand new workshop will provide an overview of the growing area of digital librarianship. It should be of interest to:

-newly qualified professionals

-people considering a career in the information field

-existing library assistants, senior library assistants and assistant librarians planning their next step

-library staff at any level working in other areas (e.g. customer services, subject support) wanting to find out more

The presenters are both practising library managers working in academic libraries in London.

The session will cover:

-Moving into e-services – the speakers’ backgrounds and e-resource experience

-Library websites – content, audience and engagement

-Working with online content – enhancing exhibitions, working with multimedia, developing services

-Repositories for collections – opening access, scanning and digitisation

-Finance – rollovers, invoicing and record keeping

-Cataloguing e-resources – including RDA

-E-book packages – suppliers and platforms, patron-driven acquisitions

-Future developments – for Senate House Library, Birkbeck College and beyond

The ‘Professional Qualifications Workshops’ workshops were originally aimed at library staff seeking CILIP Chartership but, in fact, they are relevant to anyone interested in learning about different aspects of their profession!
