Who should attend?
This event is aimed at those with an interest in or responsibility of managing FoI, Data Protection or Environmental requests, and those that must ensure compliance with disclosure legislation in higher education and other academic institutions.

What will you learn?
A clear sense of the different requirements of Freedom of Information, Data Protection and Environmental Information legislation and how they relate to each other.

What has the FoI experience taught us? An analysis of requests, case studies: some notorious requests. What lessons can be learnt?

Case law: developments in FoI since implementation.

How records management can help.

How to manage requests.

The value of support networks, training and awareness-raising.

Speakers

• Dr. Claire Surridge, now at Brunel University, until February 2007, Claire was Assistant Director, Information Services Directorate, University of Reading.
• Matthew Stephenson, Acting Head of Compliance at University of Salford and Vice-Chairman of the Records Management Society HE/FE Group
• Peter Garrod, Data Management Officer, The School of Oriental and African Studies. Peter is responsible for FoI, Data Protection, records management and archives at SOAS.
• Rachel Jarvis, Head of Archives and Records Management at Royal Holloway, University of London and Secretary of the Records Management Society HE/FE Group.
• Tony Haworth, Corporate Information & Knowledge Manager, Roehampton University. Tony is also responsible for FoI and records management and will be facilitating the event.

Please consider the following questions and bring your answers or thoughts along to the event for discussion.

• What types of requests do you get and from what sources?
• Is your organisation prepared for the requests you receive? If not, what are the issues?
• Has your publication scheme been effective?
• What types of information is your organisation not prepared to release?
• How are you addressing resistance to publishing or release?

Cost £60 for cpd25 members and £80 for other institutions, including refreshments.
