To celebrate Black History Month in October, cpd25 is pleased to invite you on a unique tour of the University of Goldsmith’s Special Collections. The tour will be led by archivist and library manager, Lesley Ruthven, who will show us around two main archives: FUTURE HISTORIES and the Women of Colour Index.

FUTURE HISTORIES is one of the first national repositories for African, Asian and Caribbean performing arts in the UK (Other are housed in the National Art Library and National Theatre). Included in the FUTURE HISTORIES collection are records from many important theatre groups that were formed in the 1970s such as the: Black Performance and Carnival Archive, Motiroti Archives, Black Theatre Forum Archives and the Nitro, formally known as Black Theatre Co-operative Archives. If you would like to find out more and search the collections please use the National Archives Catalogue.

The Women of Colour Index documents the artwork and practice of black women artists from the period 1985-1995. It includes the work of Julienne Dolphin-Wilding, Amanda Holiday and Veronica Ryan. A fuller list can be found here.

We will also get to see a host of other material on Black history in film and music from other collections.

Arrival: Please meet in front of the library.
