Information Services Supervisor / Senior Assistant Conference

Betwixt and Between: Being an Information Services Supervisor in HE Today
This conference is aimed at HE Library / Information Services Supervisors in all their guises– a group that often seems to be excluded from main stream staff development provision. It is designed for delegates who may supervise staff, services or both. The main objective of the conference is to provide the group with a rare networking opportunity, to advise them directly of the anticipated developments in the academic library world and to provide a forum to debate and feedback on the issues of the day. Examples of the issues that will be considered include:
‘Future Perfect – what will the library look like to the student of 2012?’
and ‘Is there a need for staff after RFID?’”
An excellent opportunity for ‘exchange of experience’ will be provided after lunch, when the delegates will leave the conference centre to visit one of a selection of academic libraries in the central London area.
As an alternative to the visits Ian Corns will provide a short workshop on “Doing something useful with Web2.0”

10:00 – 10:25 Keynote Address: Mary Nixon CPD25 Chair and Librarian of Goldsmiths.

12:00 – 12:45 Ian Corns, Talis, to speak on technological, professional and other forms of innovation that can be expected in the next 5 to 10 years in academic libraries.
12:45 – 13:15 Closing address by Caroline Lloyd, Head of Library & Archive Service LSHTM
13:15 – 13:50 Lunch
14:30 to 16:30 After lunch, delegates will be leaving the conference centre to visit various pre-chosen academic libraries in the central London area for a tour and exchange of experience sessions.
Those opting to attend Ian Corns’ afternoon workshop will remain in the conference venue.

2:00 – 3:00pm Alternative workshop at Hatton Gardens: Ian Corns ‘Doing something useful with web 2.0.
This workshop will provide the opportunity for attendees to share their practical experiences of using “Web2.0” tools and sites to quickly provide real benefits to users Have you got a wiki for students to write to, has your subject librarian got a blog, have you tried using del.icio.us or Flickr to share? How’s your Facebook presence? If you’re not doing anything like this yet, but really want to when you get back, here’s your chance to learn, to share and to come up with as many ideas as you can!
