All academic libraries now realise the importance of actively obtaining student views about their services. Many have conducted UX research, which uses the techniques of ethnography to explore how users experience library services and spaces. But what are we doing with all this feedback? Can it meaningfully feed into library-decision-making? And is it possible that we even gathering too much?

Catherine Lauriol and Emma Illingworth will talk about the recent UX project undertaken at Birkbeck as well as other initiatives, including a Student-Library partnership, that have been created to capture student opinion. They will describe the processes involved, what they have learned, and how the feedback has been used to influence library planning.

This workshop is part of the cpd25 Aspects programme, aimed at library staff looking to acquire additional skills and knowledge or staff working towards Chartership.

Speakers:

Catherine Lauriol, Emma Illingworth and Steven Ellis, Birkbeck, University of London
