Support for Researchers [Event Ref. No. TG5/SUPP]

When

27/04/2012
5:00 pm

Event Type

How do we support researchers? Support for the REF, bibliometrics, skills training for new researchers …

Librarians have always provided support for the research community, but in recent years it has emerged as a key agenda and looks set to become a core activity in many university libraries.

This half day event will provide an overview of some of the issues facing HE libraries, including how the roles and skills of librarians need to develop to meet the needs of our research community. Presentations from colleagues in libraries that have already implemented research support programmes will give an insight into how to provide support and some ideas to take back to our own libraries.

Speakers:

Helen Young, Academic Librarian at Loughborough University Library and Jenny Coombs, University of Nottingham will be talking about creating a reusable, online information literacy tutorial for researchers: A collaborative approach.

Sarah Nicholas from Cardiff University will talk about the Connected Researcher workshops. She’ll reflect on the context of these social media workshops for Cardiff’s researchers, first delivered in February 2011, the challenges presented in balancing practical and discursive content, how researchers responded to the workshops and how these and other workshops fit within Cardiff University Libraries’ centrally coordinated support for researchers.

Jenny Delasalle from the University of Warwick will be talking about library support for researchers offered at Warwick and the Wolfson Research Exchange.

Sarah Molloy, Research Support Librarian at Queen Mary, will be talking about her work in this area.

Dominic Tate from Royal Holloway, University of London will be talking about rolling out a Current Research Information System (CRIS) alongside an Institutional Repository (IR), promoting it as a service to researchers and capitalising on academic engagement.
