Who is George Padmore? The Archives and Audio material

As part of the events happening for Black History month, we are pleased to be hosting a visit to a black cultural archive. You may have heard of the Black Cultural archives, and visited early in the year, but have you heard of the George Padmore Institute?

The George Padmore Institute and New Beacon Bookshop is a specialist Black British History Archive. Their collections include newspapers, journals, ephemera, photographs and audio material from the UK and Caribbean. They have archives from many important ground-breaking institutions including Caribbean Artists Movement, Black Parents Movement and the Black Education Movement.  The bookshop New Beacon Books is Britain’s first black publisher and bookshop. They are both located a short walk from Finsbury Park station and the visit will include a tour of the archive and a talk from the archivist. There will also be the opportunity to visit the bookshop.

We look forward to welcoming you.

Please be advised that the George Padmore Institute is not currently wheelchair accessible and there are a lot of stairs.
