The University of East London (UEL) is a global learning community with over 28,000 students from over 120 countries world-wide. The University)’s outstanding £14 million Stratford Library is located in the heart of Stratford and was built by renowned architects Hopkins Associates who were also the innovative designers of the Olympic Park’s velodrome.

The new library opened for business in June 2013 and the vibrant, modern space offers students access to over 150,000 items of stock and an advanced digital library on three floors covering law, social work, sport and biosciences, psychology, education and performing arts. It also has 120 ‘open access’ computers, a café area and eight state of the art student group study rooms.

The new library was planned in consultation with our students who were able to contribute to every stage of the library design process.  This visit will be of interest to information professionals wanting to see new ways of providing library services in the 21st Century.
