Visit to the Library, The Egypt Exploration Society [Event Ref. No. TG3V/EGYPT]

cpd25 is delighted to offer the opportunity to visit the Egypt Exploration Society Library and Archive. This visit will include a presentation about the history of the collection and its future plans, followed by a tour of the library.

The Egypt Exploration Society funds and supports archaeological fieldwork and research in Egypt. The Society is the UK’s oldest independent funding body in the field of Egyptology, and continues to carry out ground-breaking research in Egypt at sites including Kom el-Daba, Quesna and Tell Basta and the ancient capitals of Memphis and Thebes. Their impressive research facilities include a world-class Egyptological library and a unique collection of archival material relating to the Society’s history from its foundation in 1882 to the present day.

The visit will be of interest to anyone with an enthusiasm for this subject but also to librarians and archivists more generally since the EES is keen to create links with other academic librarians.

Joanna says: “There is nothing too complex about access – we’re on a small cul-de-sac, so there’s no parking outside, but there is plenty just around the corner if anyone is driving. In terms of getting in, just ring the buzzer outside, and I’ll let you all in!”
