Celebrating LGBT+ History Month [TG3/LGBT+]
Free event for members of the M25 Consortium of Academic Libraries.
cpd25 is delighted to be hosting this free online event celebrating LGBT+ history month 2026. This event will share LGBTQIA+ narratives in libraries/archives and hear from two speakers about their work and interests in this space. It will also highlight sometimes hidden voices in library and archives.
Programme:
‘Prejudice and Pride’ revisited – Dayna Miller, Kingston University:
In February 2025 Kingston University Archives and Special Collections held its first LGBT History Month exhibition, ‘Prejudice and Pride’. Using materials from several collections, the display explored legal, social and literary aspects of LGBT+ history from the 1950s to the present day, as well as the University’s own journey in supporting the LGBT+ community.
This presentation will look back at highlights of the exhibition and discuss some of the hidden voices extracted from the collections which even Dayna was unaware of until she began putting the display together. Following the success of the exhibition, Dayna will talk about how the Archive can take these voices forward and the long-term plans needed for the Archive to ensure that they remain discoverable to all.
Discovering Lived LGBTQ+ Perspectives in Libraries & Archives – Ashleigh Green, Goldsmiths, University of London:
This talk will focus on discovering and sharing the voices of the LGBTQ+ community held within library and archive collections, with a specific focus on Goldsmiths Special Collections and Archives and the 2024 LGBTQ+ Positive Voices exhibition.
Speakers:
Dayna Miller joined Library and Learning Services at Kingston University London in 2001, taking over the role of Archivist in 2018. Her responsibilities include managing the long-term preservation of both institutional records and externally acquired archives and special collections. Dayna facilitates access to the archive collections to support learning, teaching and research within the University and external institutions, in particular the Iris Murdoch Research Centre at the University of Chichester. Dayna also encourages outreach and engagement with archival materials by curating free exhibitions throughout the year and making connections with community organisations such as U3A and local secondary schools.
Ashleigh Green (pronouns they/them) has worked in technical and systems services roles in libraries for nearly 30 years. They spent over 20 years in public libraries, focused on cataloguing, digital services and STEM/makerspace activities. Since 2021 they have worked at Goldsmiths, with responsibility for day-to-day library system work. They have also supported various LGBTQ+ initiatives within Goldsmiths Library and the University. In 2024 they organised a library exhibition, LGBTQ+ Positive Voices, which highlighted positive and joyous perspectives of LGBTQ+ lives. This included materials from Goldsmiths Special Collections and Archives, as well as original creative works by more than 20 LGBTQ+ artists. Ashleigh has previously been co-curator for UK Web Archive LGBTQ+ Lives Online project, and they were also until recently a member of CILIP LGBTQ+ Network Committee.
