The 21st century university library environment has become in many respects regarded as a “safe place” and space to “feel at home” for many students. Alongside the traditional resources, the library may replicate the comfort of a modern entertainment hub with cafés, big screen areas, comfy seating with demanding expectations from the patrons. In this atmosphere frontline staff may face increasingly difficult anti-social behaviour. Drawing on the rich experience of the speakers this workshop will examine approaches to setting boundaries for behaviour while maintaining a friendly professional environment for learning and teaching support.

This workshop would be ideal for front-line library staff, library supervisors and student services staff. Attendees will have a chance to network and share best practice with peers and professionals.

Speakers include:

Caroline Lloyd – Associate Director, Library & Research Services

Ash Charlton – Director, Ace Training

Claire Maclean – Director of students, alumni & library services, Goldsmiths

Bonnie Southcott – Student Engagement Manager, Goldsmiths

Nicola Stephenson – Assistant Librarian Reader Services, Goldsmiths

Shazara Asgarali – Night Team Manager, Goldsmiths

Olga Fadejeva – University of Sussex

Spela Mocnik – University of Sussex
