Using Social Media to extend your Website’s Reach [Event Ref. No. TG4/USM]

This half-day event considers how to get high rankings for web pages and how to extend a web presence using social media. Some practical exercises on evaluating web content will be included. The event is aimed at anyone who contributes content to their library’s or organisation’s website. Please note that this is not a technical writing course.

The speaker, Karen Blakeman, has worked in the information profession for over twenty years and has been a freelance consultant since 1989. Her company (RBA Information Services) provides training and consultancy on the use of the Internet, and on accessing and managing information resources.

Programme:

1.30pm: Arrival, welcome and registration

2.00pm: Getting a better ranking with search engines – creating high ranking content

2.30pm: Design of a webpage – how design helps or hinders viewers

3pm: Break

3.15pm: Using blogs, wikis, Twitter, Facebook and other social media to increase the reach of your website

16.30pm: End of session.

Practical exercises on evaluating some web content will be included.

Cost: £95 for CPD25 members and £115 for other institutions.

Cancellations less than one week before the event will be charged a 50% cancellation fee. In the event of a ‘no-show’ on the day, the full fee will be charged.
