cpd25 are please to offer a chance to explore Tate’s Archive and Library collections at the Hyman Kreitman Research Centre, Tate Britain.

We will be given an overview of the service, followed by a tour, and then the opporuntiy for questions and answers. The galleries are open until 5.50, and people are welcome to stay and look at these. Alternatively, there is the opportunity to take the boat from the Tate towards central London to the Tate Modern, details of which are copied below.

The Tate Archive is the national archive of British art since 1900. An unparalleled collection of unpublished and semi-published documents about fine artists in all media, it includes manuscripts, correspondence, diaries, sketchbooks, photographs, printed ephemera, posters, film and sound recordings. Art world figures such as critics, commercial galleries, dealers, societies and institutions are also covered. The Gallery Records section of the Archive holds documents relating to Tate’s own history.

Tate Library collects published material on British fine art from 1500 and on international fine art from 1900. The collection comprises a quarter of a million volumes, with 2,000 journal titles and 150,00 exhibition catalogues from galleries and museums worldwide.

The reading rooms opened in 2002 as part of a Research Centre development funded by a £2.2m donation from the Kreitman Foundation.
